I’d like to pursue a career in financial advice. I’ve always had a keen interest in numbers and more recently, finance as a whole. I very much enjoy working as a pilot but now, looking to just diversify a little bit and get a bit more time at home, basically. So skills and experience I think I already possess that will help with a career in financial planning. For the last few years I've been working in the training department and as such we have to work with a variety of trainees, different personalities, backgrounds, etc. We always have to the start and where there are and I think that’s quite a transferable skill in so much as obviously all clients will have a complete variety of backgrounds and you need to start from where they are and get a keen understanding of what they are trying to achieve. And so I think I think that's very much a transferable skill. And furthermore, working with a whole variety of people, it's something I enjoy, hopefully quite personable nature and that that should also lend itself to quite a benefit in a new career choice. Previously, I’d always been aware of M&G Wealth as a major player, but I didn’t actually know much about the Academy. And then I had a friend who’s worked for M&G Wealth well for quite a few years now. And he mentioned to me that this Academy was starting and that’s when I start to do a lot of reading around it. And that's when I obviously discovered a lot more about what that entails and the great opportunity that presented itself. So what attracted me to joining M&G Wealth was the fact that the Academy allowed me to continue working full time while studying towards my Level four diploma and continue with the Academy. I mean, that was an absolute deal breaker for me that that had to be that way. I wouldn't have been able to pursue a career in financial advice without that flexibility. So that's been absolutely brilliant. Thing I’m probably enjoying the most out of the Academy so far is a lot of the learning that's taken place over the last few months has really helped me to develop my own knowledge and obviously understand where I'm strong and weak in my own personal life. And obviously then that’ll help you once you have qualify, go on to help a lot more people and the role itself. In terms of surprises with the Academy, I'd probably say the biggest one, although it is a positive surprise, was actually the level of support that we received with our learning. We obviously allocated a course tutor and more resources than I ever expected. So that's been a massive help all the way through to ensuring that we're successful straight away. Balancing work and study, it just requires a lot of planning ahead basically, just I’ll get my roster a month in advance and then I just have to plan time accordingly to make sure that I've got study and we've been given a very good program actually from the Academy in terms of knowing when the exams are in a structured study schedule to follow, which gives you a really nice guide of the pace to set. So that's been very useful in terms of making sure that we stay on schedule and on task, ready for all the exams that we take. So when I qualify, I’ll be joining the existing firm with M&G Wealth. We're working with a business partner. We look to grow the business together. And obviously, as I gain more and more experience, hope to expand the business further. So in 3 to 5 years, I hope to be very much established in my new business, working with partners to expand it further and further. To have a good, trustworthy name, well-known in the local area, providing excellent financial advice. I think the Academy is an absolutely superb opportunity. Genuinely, I found the whole thing so serendipitous, the way it worked out. M&G are a huge company and the fact that they're offering to help you with your training and go into a very specific role, that has all the benefits that it does is a great opportunity and one that I don't think anyone should turn down. If anyone was thinking about joining the Academy, I would say don't be under any illusions in terms of how much work you will have to put in. Don’t be put off by it either, but there obviously is a required level of commitment, but going through it you’ll find it incredibly rewarding and great for developing so many elements. It looks like it should be a really rewarding career ahead, so well worth the effort.
