I’m Tom Hegarty, Partnership Director, M&G Wealth Advice. The M&G Wealth Advice Academy can offer you a flexible and accessible way to start your journey into a career as a financial adviser, even if you have no financial industry experience. So we've seen over recent years that financial advice has become increasingly difficult to access for those who need it. And the limited number of financial advisers in the UK and they all have a finite capacity to take on new clients. They generally have between 100 and 200 clients within their portfolio. And many longest serving advisers are looking to retire over the next few years. So we want to develop the next generation of advisers to continue to make advice as accessible as possible for people in the future. With this in mind, we established the M&G Wealth Advice Academy in September 2021. The Academy has been carefully designed to be as flexible as possible, catering for candidates who already have some experience in our sector, as well as those with the right skills, but no background in financial services at all. We're looking for candidates wherever they are in life, and there's no barriers to a new career as a financial adviser within M&G Wealth Advice. Our initial assessment process will identify if we think you've got the capabilities to be a successful financial adviser. We'll give you all the training and development needed to become a qualified adviser. Once qualified, you can choose whether to join an existing M&G Wealth Advice business or set up your own firm. We'll support you through all the steps of the journey and with your decision about which direction you choose to go in. Our advisers create financial recommendations to help their clients achieve their goals, like planning for a comfortable retirement, making sure their savings are working hard and in the most tax efficient way, or arranging their estates that it can protect and pass on their wealth in the best way. The foundations of our client adviser relationship is created through regular meetings, where our advisers continually review their client’s circumstances and adjust their financial plans, if things have changed, or to make sure just that they stay on track. To their clients, our financial advisers are more than just the person who helps with the financial planning. They’re a trusted friend who, through building a strong relationship, understands the client's personal circumstances, future plans and objectives. We found there's a number of reasons why our candidates want to become a financial adviser. Some are returning to work after a career break and looking for a more fulfilling career. Others wanted to take control of the future, while making a difference to people's lives. And then there's those who are more entrepreneurial and looking for a new challenge. So whatever your reason, the M&G Wealth Advice Academy could be right for you. To be a successful financial adviser, you need to have excellent interpersonal skills so you can really get to know your clients and understand and empathise with them. So, listening and questioning skills are key. Financial advice can also be complex, so you need to develop strong technical knowledge in areas like pensions, investments and tax planning, and you have to gain benchmark qualifications to demonstrate you competent to advise in these areas. We’re regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority, who make sure we’re putting clients at the heart of everything we do. So, it’s important you understand your responsibilities and follow them in the advice you give. And you need to have commercial aptitude so you can develop your business to remain solvent, profitable and sustainable for the longer term. But remember, you're not alone. We will help and support you throughout your journey in the Academy and continue to support you in building a successful business. There are no limitations on who can apply to the Academy. If you don’t have financial qualifications when you join, you can study on the part time basis, without having to give up your current job. Once qualified, you can join on a full time basis and undertake our Financial Advice Foundation Programme and then the M&G Wealth Advice Induction Programme. After completing these programs, you’ll be a trainee adviser and will start advising clients under supervision. Fine tuning your knowledge, skills and behaviours, in a supportive environment. You’ll work towards becoming competent in your role, and when that's achieved, you'll start seeing clients unsupervised. As a trainee adviser, you’ll receive generous quantities of leads to help you build a bank of clients. And once you have enough experience, you'll have the option to acquire additional clients from those advisors who are retiring. A career in financial advice isn't just financially beneficial. Helping your clients achieve their financial goals and objectives is also really satisfying and very rewarding. The M&G Wealth Advice Academy is an excellent opportunity if you're looking to pursue a career in financial advice, and we really look forward to hearing from you.
