My name’s Tom Judson. I wanted to change my career ultimately going to financial advice because my mums husband, he’s a financial adviser. And it just started with a dog walk. I was just asking him about his day. He was telling me sort of what he’d been doing that day, through the week. And I thought it sounds a lot more interesting than butchery. Something a bit more fulfilling because butchery is a great job. but that’s all it is for me. Financial advising, I’m hoping it’ll be a really good career. One I’ve been really proud of and one that will challenge me. The skills I've got that I feel be beneficial in the financial industry is definitely my interpersonal skills with customers. The past 12 years of being a butcher, so talking to people and finding out what they want, even if they don't know what they want, is sort of what I'm good at. M&G Wealth Advice Academy was the perfect academy because it allows me to work full time whilst studying. It’s the only option I’d be able to change careers because obviously we've all got bills to pay and giving up the day job to try to do something completely different just isn't feasible. What I’m enjoying the most about the Academy is, it sounds silly, but just how it's opened my eyes to, you know, the ins and outs of financial advice and actually how that applies to, to my everyday life. Like, we’ve all got mortgages and we’ve all got insurance policies and payslips, and I was just really, you know, naive to it all, of how it all works. While studying through the Academy, it’s let me understand the ins and outs of it And I think that’s interesting enough, let alone it be a way for me to start a new career. It's going to all be worth it. Once I've passed all these exams, I’m going to be in a much better position then, than I am now. The Academy is a great option for people like myself, who have a lot of financial commitments already and can't just give up their day job to pursue a new career. So the Academy is definitely giving me the only option of being able to pursue a new career by allowing me to study whilst working full time, without it becoming a financial adviser I don't think would be an option. So in 3 to 5 years I hope to be a well-established financial adviser. Working alongside John we’ll both be in a position where I can take on more responsibility for his business and then actually he can start to take a bit more back seat. Hopefully in 5 to 10 years it will be my business. I’ve always been career driven but I’ve just not had the job, the right job to push myself in until now. So yeah, I hope to be the proud owner of my own financial advice business, you know, trusted business, for M&G Wealth Advice.
